Production Information

MTA Performance Procedures

MTA Studio Productions
MTA Studio Productions are one-act plays produced, directed, designed, and run by the students. These shows are under an hour in length and are typically staged in the Studio Theatre. The productions are funded through the Muhlenberg Student Government Association. The number of Studio Productions varies with each semester.

Red Door Play Festival
Plays that are part of the Red Door Play Festival are theatre opportunities that are also fully student-run. These one-act plays also run no more than an hour in length and have minimal physical production. These plays are staged in the Red Door Cafe (Seegers Union).

Marginalized Voices Theatre Arts Festival

Also referred to as MVTAF, the Marginalized Voices Theatre Arts Festival is held annually during the fall semester. MVTAF aims to allow all students that feel underrepresented on the Muhlenberg stage, as well as in the global art scene, to share their voices and be celebrated through featuring original student pieces.

Arts Marathon

Arts Marathon is also held annually during the fall semester. It is a 24-hour fundraiser for a local charity. The day-long festival is filled with performances from a cappella groups, performance ensembles, student-written plays, and other silly antics to raise money.

New Play Reading Series

Also referred to as NPRS, the New Play Reading Series allows student playwrights to workshop their new work through readings and talkbacks. This festival is held every year during the spring semester.

Fundraiser Cabaret

Also referred to as FundCab, the Fundraiser Cabaret is pretty self-explanatory: a musical cabaret that raises money for a local charity. The event has a theme that the songs are based around and is held each year in the spring semester.

Performance Ensembles

New performance ensembles must be approved by the MTA Board as well as the MTA Faculty advisor. Performance ensembles consist of any work rehearsed and performed in an improvisational, cabaret, or workshop-type format. Performance ensembles may rehearse no more than 3 hours per week (except for on weeks of performances) and may not be fully scripted plays or musicals. Therefore, participation in a Performance Ensemble does not fall under the "2 rule.”
